Family Matters - Life Skills Coaching.
Beneficiaries: Individuals and families experiencing domestic violence.
This project was the initiating project for Family Matters, which started the organisation in 1995. A specialist support and empowerment service tackling domestic abuse. It provides one-to-one coaching (counselling/education) to victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse to break the cycle abuse and to promote healthier relationships and fulfilled lives.
It takes a great deal of strength to say:
“I have a problem or a challenge which I am struggling with, I cannot work through it alone and I need your help”

Supervision and Accountability
Life Skills Coaches work under the supervision of the Centre Director. Our Life Skills Coaches work to a professional Code of Conduct.
What happens next?
We will make an initial appointment, where you will have an opportunity to decide if Life Skills Coaching will be of help to you, and for us to be sure we have the appropriate skills to meet your need. As we take a holistic approach to our work we will refer you to your GP to ensure that you have the best all round support, whilst engaged in the coaching process, especially where issues being addressed may have a health impact.
Arrangements will then be made for you to meet with your Life Skills Coach. The number of sessions will be agreed between you and your Coach. Each session will normally last for about an hour.
How much does it cost?
We do feel it is important for everyone to make a
contribution towards their recovery and growth. Fees are
therefore charged on a sliding scale according to income.
However no-one will be denied help through lack of finance.
Pursuing Excellence
Family Matters Luton is committed to excellence in provision of Life Skills Coaching. We value feedback from our clients, other agencies and our partners. This enables us to continue to deliver an effective service.
Life Skills Coaching is not counselling, awareness raising or therapy. It focuses on acquiring practical life skills. However, there is no denying that Life Skills Coaching can increase ones awareness, and even be
therapeutic.
Our Life Skills Coaching is based on the conviction that life’s challenges and crises can be best met by taking an holistic approach. For us this means utilising the wisdom of pastoral insights, the knowledge and skills of counselling, education and training in facilitating clients acquiring the skills and competencies to bring about their own transformation and to manage their own lives.
Every client is treated with respect and dignity.
